What is Fiber Optic Internet and how does it work?

Fiber Optic Internet uses cutting edge technology. Information and data connection is sent via small, flexible strands of glass or plastic fibres that travels as beams of light pulsed in a pattern. This allows data to be sent faster over greater distances.

Benefits of using ISP Fibre for your Internet:
1. Speed

Fiber optic Internet sends data faster than basic cable, its speed is 1 Gbps, which is 10-20 times faster than the 50 – 100 Mbps standard cable that we know. It’s delivered on a dedicated lines, which facilitates more consistent higher speed and can handle more users and data than cable. This is true even during peak usage times.

2. Reliability:

Often, fiber optic internet is considered more reliable since it is immune to many of the conditions that cable internet is susceptible to. For instance, fiber is less likely to go down during a power outage because it does not need energized lines nor would it overload or experience throttling like internet cables (which require the heating of copper wires to send signals and susceptible to interference).

3. Safety:

Since fiber optic internet is made of glass, there is no electricity involved. This protects it against interference from nearby power lines or high voltage electrical equipment. This also helps reduce the risk of fire. Fiber can withstand more temperature fluctuations than cable and can be submerged in water. Also, the private network installed to your home makes fiber optic internet harder to hack.

4. Costs and Long-term investment:

Fiber optic internet service can be more expensive than basic cable Internet. The price gap has shrunk, though. More providers now offer a fiber optic option. It’s becoming more cost-efficient to install fiber optic networks than to maintain antiquated copper systems.
